Friday Barnes remains one of the sharpest young detective series going, and No Escape earns its place in the lineup by deepening Friday's emotional world alongside the mystery plot. The Italian setting is a fun change of scenery, and the school-counselor subplot models something genuinely useful for middle-grade readers. Parents of younger kids in the target range should know the romance thread is more present here than in earlier books.
