Genie and Teeny

This one does exactly what an early-reader series book should: it moves fast, it's funny, and the friendship at the center is warm without being syrupy. Thirty black-and-white illustrations break up the text at just the right pace for kids who are newly independent readers. Best in series order, but the built-in recap means a classroom can hand it to a new kid without too much confusion.
