Grams, Her Boyfriend, My Family, and Me

Fifteen-year-old Andy is the most reasonable person in a household that has come completely unglued since Grams moved in, and Pat Derby uses that comic setup well. When Grams meets a man and announces she wants to marry him, Andy alone chooses loyalty to his grandmother over family pressure — and takes real risks to help her. That active, principled protagonist gives the book its heart. The comedy is genuine and the intergenerational relationship at the center feels warm rather than sentimental. The caveats are practical ones: limited digital presence makes this hard to find, and some supporting characters are more sketch than portrait. A solid middle-grade read for families who like humor with a little emotional weight, if they can track down a copy.
