School Library Journal praise is meaningful, and Hamilton delivers what it promises: a clear, engaging, well-organized introduction to pirate history that gives young nonfiction readers a real sense of the era without talking down to them. At 32 pages it's necessarily brief, but the companion volume structure means kids who want more can keep going. The content is nearly 20 years old, though pirate history doesn't change fast, so the age is less of a liability here than it would be for other topics.
