Akashic Books' Lyricpop series takes classic pop songs and reimagines them as picture books, and this adaptation of the Bee Gees' 1977 ballad turns it into an underwater adventure following two bunny mermaids who help each other escape nets, hooks, and traps. J.L. Meyer's illustrations are vibrant and the friendship message is warm. The honest note: the narrative is thin on its own — the book leans heavily on the emotional weight of a song that adults know and young children almost certainly don't. It works best as a shared read between a parent who loves the original and a child who will enjoy the art and the adventure. On its own merits as a picture book, it's pleasant but not particularly distinctive.
