Children's ✦ Penny’s Take
I am Harriet Tubman
Brad Meltzer · 2023
74/100
👍 Worth It
Meltzer treats Tubman's story with genuine moral seriousness — slavery, family separation, and dangerous flight are not prettied away — and the back-matter timeline and photos give the book real educational legs. The cartoon format does create tonal friction with the weight of the history, a fair criticism, but for a five-to-nine-year-old encountering Tubman for the first time this is a meaningful entry point.
