Robert Henderson · 2019
91/100
👍 Worth It

Robert Henderson's 2019 picture book is genuinely unlike most others on the shelf. Designed to be read by two people sitting across from each other — one right-side up, one upside down — the illustrations are engineered to read coherently from both orientations while depicting opposite concepts. A nearly full glass appears empty from the other angle; a soaring acrobat becomes a diving swimmer when inverted. It makes the abstract idea of perspective physically playful in a way that young children can actually experience. Reviewers highlighted its originality and its value as a shared reading experience. The one real limitation: the concept requires two readers to fully come alive. For solo reading, it loses something. As a paired classroom or family activity, it's a clever and memorable book.
