Jack and the Beanstalk and Other Fairy Tales

Rene Cloke's gentle watercolour illustrations are the real reason this anthology exists and the main reason to seek it out — they give classic tales a warmth and softness that's genuinely lovely for young children. The retellings themselves are very brief and editorially thin, and the book is out of print, meaning you'd be hunting secondhand markets. Wonderful if you find it; not worth a hard search unless you're a Cloke collector.
