Children's ✦ Penny’s Take

👍 Worth It
Jo Jo Makoons is one of the rare early chapter book series where the voice is so alive it practically jumps off the page — and it happens to be one of the only Own Voices Ojibwe children's series in print. The Kirkus and SLJ praise is well earned, and the Michif and Ojibwe language woven through is a genuine gift. Start with book one if you are new to the series, but this third installment is every bit as strong.
