Joe and Betsy the Dinosaur

Lillian Hoban was a reliable, warm hand in the I Can Read stable, and a pet dinosaur with a talent for accidental disaster is a solid premise for a beginning reader. The book does exactly what early leveled readers need to do — simple sentences, funny momentum, clear stakes — but it lacks the critical profile or thematic depth to distinguish itself from the many other solid I Can Read titles.
