DK Readers is one of the most reliably well-produced leveled-reading series in print, and pairing it with Star Wars is a proven motivator for reluctant early readers. The 2015 edition adds 16 pages of content over the original, keeping it reasonably current. The prequel-era focus is mildly dated now that the franchise has expanded so far beyond it, and parents who avoid all fantasy/sci-fi should note the source material — but for a Star Wars fan who is just starting to read independently, this is a solid choice.
