This Little Golden Book does what it sets out to do very well — it brings a complex, barrier-breaking biography down to a level toddlers and preschoolers can engage with, and the personal details (sneakers, cooking) make Harris feel like a real person rather than a civic symbol. Families with strong political objections to the subject will want to pass, and the uncritically celebratory tone is a real limitation; but as an on-ramp to civic literacy for very young children, it earns its place.
