Lafayette is an underexplored figure in American history education, and Brandt's accessible biography fills a real gap for elementary students doing school reports. The problem is a 1997 publication date with no new scholarship and a thin critical record β the Troll Associates series was workhorse curriculum material, not literary standouts. Functional for the classroom, but not a title to seek out over newer or richer biographies of the same subject.
