The interdisciplinary philosophy here — weaving language learning through nature observation, literature, and art — is genuinely ahead of its time and maps well onto Charlotte Mason methods still popular with homeschoolers today. The catch is that this is a 120-year-old text reprinted without any modernizing annotation, so dated language, cultural assumptions, and irrelevant examples are baked in. Worth downloading free from the Internet Archive out of curiosity, but not worth buying.
