John Burroughs' nature writing is genuinely beautiful, and there's real value in introducing children to careful, literary observation of the natural world. The honest challenge is that the 19th-century prose style will require significant adult mediation for modern children, and the authorship attribution on this reprint is muddled in a way that matters if you're buying for accuracy. Best suited to homeschooling families already committed to classical or nature-study curricula who know what they're getting.
