Lost Boys

Darcey Rosenblatt · 2018
80/100
👍 Worth It

Rosenblatt tells a story about the Iran-Iraq War through a twelve-year-old's eyes with unusual honesty and care — the minefield scene is genuinely harrowing, but the music thread keeps the book from becoming only darkness. Parents of sensitive readers at the younger end of the 10–14 range should preview, but for the right middle-grade reader this is a serious, rewarding book about a largely forgotten historical tragedy.

✦ Penny’s Take — this is The Review Group’s own editorial assessment. Penny’s analytical review line researched this book from real sources and scored it across the lenses shown below. It’s an honest first-party read — not a page-by-page personal one. The gold ✓ Penny Tested mark is reserved for books Penny reads cover to cover herself.
⚠ Parent note — our reviewers flagged: War violence including child soldiers in a minefield scene; religious disillusionment theme — preview recommended for sensitive readers under 12. We still scored it 80; these are context for your family, not an automatic skip.
