Magical Bedtime Stories

Nicola Baxter · 2015
78/100
👍 Worth It

Twenty-seven classic bedtime tales gathered under one gilded cover — Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks, Puss in Boots, Beauty and the Beast, and more, alongside original stories — make this Nicola Baxter anthology a generous gift-book option for families with young children. The full-color illustrations and gilded page edges give it a satisfying physical presence, and the familiar titles mean children will ask for favorites by name. The honest caveat is that this title hasn't attracted much formal critical attention, so the quality of the original (non-classic) stories is harder to evaluate. Some very young children may find the standard fairy-tale peril — wolves, giants, witches — a touch scary at bedtime. But as a keep-on-the-shelf family collection, it covers the ground it needs to.
