The Lucent 'Importance Of' series earned its place in school libraries for a reason — clear prose, appropriate scope, and reliable curriculum alignment — and this volume on Mark Twain is a competent entry in that tradition. The 1994 publication date is the real limitation: contemporary classroom discussion of Twain now includes conversations about racial language and literary legacy that this book simply cannot support. A newer biography would serve middle schoolers better.
