Ann Rinaldi takes the Bounty mutiny's shadow and uses it to tell a story that's really about identity, secrecy, and belonging — which is exactly what middle-grade readers are living through themselves. The early-19th-century English setting is vividly rendered, the speculative premise is handled with care, and School Library Journal's praise for the 'gem of a story' rings true based on the dossier. Rinaldi's large backlist means this title gets overlooked, but it's one worth finding.
