My Grandparents

Claudia Harrington's picture book does something genuinely useful — normalizing grandparent-headed households without drama or stigma — and the Common Core alignment gives it a natural home in classrooms. What it does not do is tell an especially memorable story: the vehicle for the message (a visiting classmate asking questions) is serviceable but thin, and no formal critics have weighed in to suggest this rises above many similar books on the shelf. A solid classroom or library purchase but not a standout home read.
