The firsthand authority of practicing paleontologist-sculptors is a genuine asset, and the career-exploration angle still works for curious upper-elementary readers. But nearly four decades of new discoveries mean some of the science has aged out, and without a strong narrative hook it can feel more like a career brochure than a compelling read. Worth checking out of a library, but not an essential purchase in 2026.
