Mary Casanova and Ard Hoyt's winter companion to One-Dog Canoe does exactly what a good cumulative picture book should: the rhythm builds, the sleigh gets more overcrowded with each animal who calls out 'I want to play!', and then the blizzard and the snowbank send everyone flying in a moment of pure comic release. Kirkus praised the rhyme, rhythm, repetition, and humor, and Read-Aloud Revival picked it up as a quality storytime choice — those are reliable signals. Hoyt's expressive illustrations amplify the comedy perfectly. The honest note: very slight narrative, the cumulative structure is essentially the whole story, and the winter setting limits year-round use. None of that matters much in December with a lap full of kids. Dependable seasonal fun.
