The diverse cast of kids feels natural rather than checklist-y, and Kirkus's endorsement of the illustrations as rich discussion-starters is specific praise rather than boilerplate. The absence of plot is real, but for the two-to-five audience a celebration of daily play doesn't need a narrative arc to earn repeat reads.
