Alex's practical-joke comeuppance is a relatable setup for the 7–9 crowd, and the Christian values framework is woven in naturally rather than hammered home. The problem is availability — it's out of print, which means families hunting for it are doing so on secondary markets, and the 1980s voice will feel a little dated to contemporary young readers. Within its intended Christian family audience it still works, but the accessibility hurdle is real.
