Helen Bate does something genuinely tricky here — she brings a Jewish child's experience of Nazi-occupied Budapest to a primary school audience without either sanitizing the horror or overwhelming young readers. The graphic novel format does real work making this accessible, and the balance of warmth and historical weight is carefully managed. A strong addition to KS2 history shelves.
