The copycat cousin scenario is genuinely relatable for tween readers and the writing is warm and accessible, but there is little here to distinguish this from the crowded field of middle-grade friendship books. The co-authored structure keeps the series running but makes voice feel uneven, and the stakes stay low throughout. Fans already invested in the series will enjoy it; readers picking up middle-grade for the first time should start somewhere with more ambition.
