The conceit of children literally turning into pigs when they forget their manners is clever enough to earn genuine laughs from kids and adults alike, and Bloom's gouache illustrations deliver the barnyard transformation with real visual warmth. The moral never feels preachy because the transformation consequence speaks for itself. It is not a groundbreaking picture book, but as a classroom or family read-aloud about manners it is cheerful, well-crafted, and does exactly what it sets out to do.
