Pioneer Sisters

Laura Ingalls Wilder · 1997
74/100
👍 Worth It

Wilder's world translates gracefully into the early chapter book format — the frontier adventure, the sisterhood, the faith and resilience are all present and accessible for grades 1 through 3. Renee Graef's illustrations fit the tone well. The adaptation necessarily loses much of Wilder's original literary texture, and the period depictions of Native American peoples warrant a conversation with young readers. As a stepping stone into one of children's literature's most beloved series, it earns its place.
