Tanith Lee writes with more invention per page than most authors in the genre manage in a whole series, and Art Blastside's never-kill code gives the pirate adventure a real moral center. Kirkus is right that it doesn't quite match the original, and the plot can lose its way mid-book β€” but for readers already invested in Art's world this is a satisfying, ambitious continuation.
