An 11-year-old reading the whole first volume in one sitting is exactly the reaction you want from a children's history book, and the eccentric-maharaja premise delivers on it — shoe-hidden diamonds and dog weddings are genuinely compelling entry points for young readers who might otherwise bounce off Indian history. Mini Menon's journalism credentials show in the prose. The cultural specificity is also a real limit for readers outside the subcontinent, but within that audience, this earns its place.
