The child-animal bond at the heart of Raja and Kamal is genuinely warm, and the Thar Desert setting is a welcome change of scenery for diverse-books collections. But Kirkus flagged real structural problems — a meandering plot, an ambiguous ending, and end-matter that overgeneralizes Indian traditions — and those are fair concerns.
