The Mae Jemison volume does what early-reader biographies need to do: it puts an inspiring, under-represented figure in front of beginning readers with vocabulary they can handle and photographs that make the story feel real. Depth is necessarily thin at 32 pages, but as a classroom library staple and a first encounter with a remarkable person, it earns its place. A reliable series pick for grades one and two.
