The friendship and honesty lesson is sweet and age-appropriate, and familiar Strawberry Shortcake characters lower the reading barrier for reluctant early readers. But as a licensed tie-in with minimal independent critical coverage and no real literary ambition, there is not much here beyond franchise comfort food. Young readers who love these characters will enjoy it, but there are stronger early chapter books making the same friendship points.
