Shiny Happy People

Adapted from R.E.M.'s 1991 hit, this LyricPop picture book follows a young fox and rabbit whose friendship is threatened when disapproving adult rabbits brandish a 'No Foxes' sign. Paul Hoppe's illustrations do meaningful work here — the palette shifts from conflict-red to celebration-blue as the message of inclusion lands — and the song's chorus translates to a children's narrative more naturally than you might expect. The real strength is the simplicity of the message: friendship crosses boundaries, and joy is better shared. The honest caveat is that adults unfamiliar with the original song may find the story a bit thin on its own, and there's limited independent critical coverage beyond publisher and retail commentary. Still, as a feel-good read about acceptance, it delivers cleanly and warmly for the preschool set.
