The Show Strides series earns its Equus awards — co-author Piper Klemm's editorial background at The Plaid Horse gives the horsemanship detail an authenticity most equestrian fiction for kids lacks, and the friendship dynamics between Tally and Mac give horse-loving readers something to emotionally invest in alongside the riding. For non-horse readers this will be a closed door, but for the target audience of horse-enthusiast girls in the 9-to-12 range it is one of the better options in its niche.
