Puybaret's dreamlike illustrations on linen are genuinely beautiful and lift the book above most allegorical picture books, and the premise — Mother Nature's children as personified vices, redeemed only by twin embodiments of Love — is both ambitious and thematically wholesome. The text runs dense for younger listeners and the allegory requires adult partnership to land, but for families who enjoy thoughtful, literary picture books this is a rewarding find.
