The historical subject matter is genuinely distinctive — no other YA novel centers the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait — and the eyewitness basis gives it documentary weight that pure fiction cannot match. But limited mainstream critical coverage and small-press distribution make quality verification difficult, and Danah's decision to return to an active war zone strains credibility. Worth seeking out for the right reader, but too uncertain for a confident general recommendation.
