Tales of Holidays

Pleasant DeSpain Β· 2002
70/100
πŸ‘ Worth It

Pleasant DeSpain does what he does well across this whole multicultural series: he brings nine global holiday traditions to an elementary audience with warmth and variety, moving from Hanukkah to Halloween to Christmas to New Year's across several continents without reducing any tradition to a caricature. The stories are brief, so depth per tale is limited, but the breadth makes this a strong classroom or library pick for the 8–11 crowd. The Halloween entry's mild spookiness is the only note worth flagging for the most tradition-sensitive families.

⚠ Parent note β€” our reviewers flagged: one Halloween story with mild spooky atmosphere β€” may not suit all family preferences. We still scored it 70; these are context for your family, not an automatic skip.
