Pleasant DeSpain does what he does well across this whole multicultural series: he brings nine global holiday traditions to an elementary audience with warmth and variety, moving from Hanukkah to Halloween to Christmas to New Year's across several continents without reducing any tradition to a caricature. The stories are brief, so depth per tale is limited, but the breadth makes this a strong classroom or library pick for the 8–11 crowd. The Halloween entry's mild spookiness is the only note worth flagging for the most tradition-sensitive families.
