Usborne does solid work making classic literature approachable, and Poe is exactly the kind of author young readers need a well-crafted bridge to reach. The atmospheric retellings preserve the dread and the narrative tension without throwing a ten-year-old directly into Poe's dense Victorian prose. Parents of sensitive children should know going in that death, entombment, and psychological terror are the whole point — these stories are supposed to be frightening.
