Wanda's warm relationship with her great-aunt Zelma gives this early reader a genuine emotional core, and the 100th Day of School hook makes it a natural library and classroom pick in the weeks around that milestone. Outside that window, though, the narrow premise and thin plot leave little reason to return to it, and more adventurous early readers may find the pacing slow.
