A picture book born from genuine loss — an eight-year-old writing about Hurricane Katrina to honor a friend — carries real emotional authenticity, and the message about kindness healing divided communities is exactly right for young readers. The literary craft is modest by necessity given its origins, and professional critical coverage is very limited. A meaningful community story, but not one with the polish to compete with the best in its age range.
