Abdel-Fattah balances a lot here — refugee inclusion, bully redemption, an existing best-friendship under pressure — and mostly pulls it off with humor and a voice-driven first-person narrator that upper elementary readers will enjoy. The resolution is tidier than the issues deserve, and it leans moralistic, but the multimedia elements and the genuine warmth toward Majur keep it from feeling preachy. A solid pick for grades 4 to 7.
