The Japanese American Internment

The 'You Choose' format is a genuinely smart way to bring multiple perspectives on the internment into a third-grader's hands — putting readers inside the experience of a Japanese American family, a resistance member, and a Caucasian teacher in the same slim volume builds empathy in a way that a single narrator can't. Each path is necessarily brief, so this works best alongside a more complete treatment, but as an entry point for grades 3–4 it's purposeful and well-grounded in real events.
