This 1978 picture book has a genuinely rare quality for its era — it takes a child's inner emotional life seriously, using a fantasy carpet ride to explore longing, belonging, and self-trust in ways most children's books of that period didn't touch. The illustration count is generous and the intent is touching. But nearly five decades of near-total critical silence and very limited circulation mean there's simply not enough independent evidence to recommend seeking it out over newer books doing similar work more verifiably.
