As a piece of Enlightenment-era intellectual history this 1801 survey has genuine value for researchers and rare-book enthusiasts, but the 2018 edition is a bare print-on-demand facsimile with no scholarly apparatus to contextualize two centuries of superseded science. Dense 18th-century prose and outdated geology make it inaccessible for recreational or educational reading by almost any audience. A specialist curiosity, not a general recommendation.
