Children's β¦ Penny’s Take
The Red Badge of Courage, with Connections
Stephen Crane Β· 1999
74/100
π Worth It
For the classroom this is the right edition: full unabridged Crane plus curated companion readings that give students historical and literary context without relying entirely on teacher preparation. The utilitarian textbook design is nobody's idea of pleasure reading, but that is not what this edition is for. The underlying novel is canonical and the apparatus supports it well.
β¦ Penny’s Take β this is The Review Group’s own editorial assessment. Penny’s analytical review line researched this book from real sources and scored it across the lenses shown below. It’s an honest first-party read β not a page-by-page personal one. The gold β Penny Tested mark is reserved for books Penny reads cover to cover herself.
