This is one of the stronger entries in the Callisto Kids series — Sojourner Truth's story naturally integrates abolition, women's rights, and religious calling in a way that gives young readers more than one dimension to latch onto, and the Kirkus note that the author handles Truth's Christian faith prominently and positively is meaningful for faith-friendly audiences. Reviewed by both Kirkus and School Library Journal, which sets it above most series entries. The inspirational format still limits historical complexity, but for ages 6-to-9 it punches above its weight.
