The Third Planet

Sally Ride · 1994
82/100
👍 Worth It

Sally Ride and Tam O'Shaughnessy use stunning NASA photography to make Earth feel both enormous and fragile — exactly the perspective a young science reader needs. The 1995 American Institute of Physics award is a meaningful credential, and Ride's astronaut credibility isn't just a marketing hook; she actually saw this planet from outside it. Some imagery and data are thirty years old now, but the systems-thinking approach still holds up beautifully.
