A city-wide treasure hunt with cryptic clues is a genuinely fun premise for curious middle-grade readers, and the Philadelphia setting gives it a grounded feel. The problem is that it's out of print, the 1985 setting dates it, and thin critical coverage makes it hard to assess whether the execution fully delivers on the promise of the premise. Worth tracking down if your kid is obsessed with codes and puzzles; otherwise there are fresher alternatives.
