A serviceable classroom workhorse that does exactly what it promises — graded passages, timing exercises, comprehension checks — but it is purely a skills-delivery vehicle, not a book a student will remember or love. Thirty-five-year-old design and decontextualized excerpts make this feel utilitarian at best. It has a legitimate place in a structured reading program but earns no real enthusiasm.
